Inside Out
Concrete, & Stone
50 in. x 48 in. x 35 in.
2010 Temporary Location: South Corner
Sculpture Concept:
Inside Out is an abstracted figurative piece designed to trap water. Constructed of concrete, copper, and stone, the sculpture depicts a portrait of a face. The portrait is placed face-down on a stone pedestal in a resting or peaceful position with the eyes closed. The overturned face creates a vessel that collects rainwater.
Joe Barnett’s intention with the piece is that many viewers will identify and place themselves in their reflections viewed in the collected rain water. The sculpture creates a community of different faces in the rainwater. It is the focus of this sculpture to inspire the audience to think of peace, and view their part in creating peace.
